PRESENT POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
A .Senior Advisor, Child Survival, Maternal, Child and Urban Health Division , of Office of Population-Health and Nutrition, USAID India( January 10 2005 till date.
I am the key Mission representative for maternal, neonatal, child health and nutrition related matters to the National Rural Health Mission, Reproductive Child Health (RCH II), Universalisation of ICDS and the 11 th Five year plan and programs of Government of India. I am responsible for leading the technical team and managing the process for the technical design of the new "National Integrated Health Program" (VISTAAR) which will be the center piece of USAID portfolio. I am also the lead person in the development and management of the portfolio of activities which include managing NIHP/VISTAAR, nutrition, micronutrients, neonatal health and immunization/injection safety related activities which includes polio eradication program of India (USAID and GoI's very high profile and priority program). I am also the MCHUH Division representative on the state coordination teams within the PHN office for maternal health and child survival matters in the three USAID-PHN focus states for reproductive health and child survival interventions i.e. U.P., Uttranchal and Jharkhand. I manage and give technical oversight for an overall portfolio of Child Survival, micronutrient, infectious diseases and Reproductive
health activities with a funding level funding of approximately $ 28 million annually.
As key Mission representative to national and state National/State Rural Health Mission, RCH II, Universalisation of ICDS and 11 th Five year plan and programs for maternal health and child survival matters, I maintain highest level contacts at GoI and respective State Governments and represent the Mission on maternal health and child survival matters at all important NRHM, Reproductive Child Health (RCH II), 11 th Five year Plan and Universalisation of ICDS meetings being convened by the GoI and am responsible for designing and overseeing USAID assistance to the implementation of the child, maternal, neonatal and tribal health and nutrition components of Government of India's
I am also responsible for providing USAID leadership in the high profile, $ 6 million per year, Polio Eradication program - which is a priority of the USAID administrator, a priority of the GOI and other development partners. In this role I maintain the highest levels of contact in the USG, USAID, the GOI and multilateral development agencies e.g. Gates Foundation, DFID, GtZ, European Commission, World Bank, etc. I am responsible for leading the development of USAID/India's Polio Eradication program, including determining priorities for support, development and implementation of procured activities, and specifying the nature and extent of support through other mechanisms, such as support to UNICEF, WHO and CORE. I work closely with other offices and actors within the mission (e.g. The Science Office, CDC, the front office) particularly on matters of urgent and general concern with regard to Polio eradication. I maintain liaison with USAID/W where my areas of responsibility are concerned. I am the mission's technical representative at Inter-Country Coordinating and Expert Group meetings and reviews for polio eradication and vaccine preventable diseases. I also c hair or sit as secretary to some government committees to develop policy and program planning guidance on matters related to maternal and child health, routine immunisation, injection safety, polio eradication, IMNCI, Home based Newborn care and micronutrients. I also maintain continual liaison with highest level GoI and state government officials and with other high-level host-country officials and with other local personnel who serve as my counterparts for project-related activities in TERI, Public Health Foundation of India, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, PATH, CARE etc. .
I assumed full responsibility for the development and management of the new locally procured, maternal health, child survival and reproductive health -funded technical assistance activities of National Integrated Health Program (VISTAAR) with approximately $ 25 million over five years program, which will be the center stage program of future MCHUH activities. I am also responsible for all related technical and procurement actions or obligations, such as negotiation or execution of grants, cooperative agreements or contracts. I am the CTO of the NIHP program.
I am also the Activity Manager of various Child Survival Health Grant Projects and Operational Research related projects with regards to Routine immunization, Polio eradication, Injection Safety, micronutrients, child survival etc.
B. National Chair and International Board Member of "Rotarians for Fighting against AIDS", Rotary International, Evanston , Illinois , USA . 2004 till 2007
Our purpose is to mobilize Rotarians and provide global leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We believe in breaking the silence on AIDS, thereby reducing the stigma and making AIDS a mainstream issue. We will create an organizational structure that will encourage Rotarians around the world to work on HIVAIDS education and prevention, with a particular focus on mobilizing and assisting community support efforts for orphans and vulnerable children. |
