Dr. A. K. Purohit is a busy neurosurgeon who performs all kinds of surgeries on the brain, spinal cord and nerves. He has received six awards namely one lakh yen cash, friend of disabled, Sree Tarak Rama Memorial Award, Dhanwantari award and so on. He has been honored with VAIDYA RATNA upadhi by Sree Sree Jagadguru Shankaracharya and has been made advisory member of their math in Hampi
Dr. Purohit is a member of twelve international and national medical organizations. He has been to 12 foreign countries to present papers and deliver guest lectures. He has also received a short term training on " Surgery without Knife" in Japan . He has developed an animal model of hydrocephalus and syringohydromyelia in dogs.
He as a neurosurgeon has special interest in neurosurgical management of spasticity and has developed a new technique known as selective Motor Fasciculotomy. He has the largest series to his credit on this technique in the world. He is the founder member of Indian Family of Cerebral Palsy an organization, which is determined to improve the condition of children with cerebral palsy.
He has published seventy articles in medical journals, general magazines and newspapers and has contributed chapters in 6 medical books. He has edited medical journal, magazines and is the chief editor of newsletter published by Indian Family of Cerebral Palsy.
He is in medical field since 1974 and is having teaching training and research experience of more than 20 years.
He has delivered many guest lectures, conducted a number of workshops, camps, surgical demonstrations at various places in India . He has given several programs on Science and Literature in Doordarshan, UGC transmission and All India Radio.
He has great interest in literature and is a poet too.
